Iran-Israel conflict
Trump wants to “prevent a third world war”
"I will prevent World War III", promised former US President Donald Trump in the face of the Iranian attack on Israel (see video above). "Whatever he touches turns to shit," he said of current President Joe Biden. The US government is a key supporter of Israel.
"God save the people of Israel. They are under attack right now because we have shown great weakness. This would not have happened if I had been in office," said Donald Trump at a campaign event in Pennsylvania. "What's wrong with the world? Everybody is fighting. Russia, Ukraine, Israel, the Middle East is exploding. Everything is exploding. The next ones are China with Taiwan (...). Bring Donald Trump back as president and it will stop," he continued.

Anti-war rhetoric
In recent weeks, the Republican US presidential candidate has increasingly relied on anti-war rhetoric to score points in the election campaign. He repeatedly emphasized that the USA had not waged war during his time in office. However, relations with Iran had deteriorated significantly under Trump. In 2018, the withdrawal from the international agreement to limit Iran's nuclear program was announced. As a result, the mullah regime resumed uranium enrichment and, according to experts, nuclear weapons could soon be produced.
Trump is also seen as the driving force behind the blockade of billions in US military aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan in the US House of Representatives.
The role of the USA in the Middle East
On Sunday night, the US military supported Israel in repelling the Iranian attack. Among other things, the army is present in Iraq with 2,400 troops. Following the attack, Biden has already spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the phone. The USA would not take part in any offensive military action against Iran, but would help in Israel's defense. The politician is said to have previously expressed his fear of being drawn into the conflict.
The Iranian attack was strongly condemned internationally, including by Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (both ÖVP) from Austria. At Israel's request, a meeting of the UN Security Council is planned for Sunday afternoon (4 p.m. local time, 10 p.m. CEST).
