Closures only for a short time

New escape tunnels planned for the Schmitt Tunnel

Construction work in the Schmitt Tunnel is entering the next phase: massive damage to the tunnel ceiling was discovered in the fall of 2023. Twelve additional escape connections are now planned. 

Construction will continue in three sections until 2030 and around 180,000 cubic meters of rock will be excavated. The state is investing 76.5 million euros in this alone.

There will only be total closures in the short term.
