Farewell tour
Western Cowboys say goodbye after 22 years
Burgenland's country music figurehead is retiring. The farewell tour continues until November.
It was a great era and it hurts a little, but it's the right time," says Christian Pöschl, bandleader of the Western Cowboys. The group has been performing on stages at home and abroad for 22 years, has made several television appearances, received 12 Austrian Country Awards and released six studio albums. The group has organized its own country cruises for fans eight times. "It was a wonderful time and we are grateful for the many moments we were able to experience. We achieved everything you can achieve with country music in Austria and were at the forefront for 22 years," says Pöschl.
100 percent
But now it's over. He has given 100 percent all these years, which has taken its toll. "It's time for other things and if you don't keep going at full speed, your career slips away, I don't want that," says the band leader. Even when his father Leo left the band, his motivation waned somewhat.
Farewell tour
In the coming weeks, however, fans will still have the opportunity to say goodbye to the Cowboys, with a total of 23 concerts still planned. Donations for the Sterntalerhof will also be collected during the tour (www.westerncowboys.at). The last gig will be on November 9 at the Western Ball at Gasthaus Schmalzl in Wimpassing - where it all began 22 years ago.
Focus on musical cabaret
Pöschl himself will continue to perform on stage afterwards. He wants to concentrate more on his career as a music cabaret artist. The next performances are planned for the fall.
