Happy ending to a major night-time search operation

Search operations don't always end well, but this time the emergency services were able to track down a missing 59-year-old man. He had disappeared from a care facility in Gmunden on Thursday night, dressed only in a nightgown according to a nurse.

The 59-year-old could no longer be found in the care facility in Gmunden from 8pm on Wednesday evening. The police then received a missing person's report at around 10 pm. A nurse stated that the resident had disappeared wearing only a nightgown.

The police and fire department quickly set up an operations center, and a helicopter with a thermal imaging camera, drones and search dogs were also requested to launch a large-scale search for the missing person.

Rescue idea
The saving idea came at around 1.20 a.m., when it was decided to search the park of the care facility in the direction of Krottenseestraße with a search chain. An hour later, the 59-year-old was found in the street there by a fire department team.

The missing man was hypothermic, but was otherwise uninjured. The emergency doctor and paramedics treated the patient and took him to Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck. At around 3.20 a.m., the night-time operation came to a "happy end".
