"I am very satisfied"
Schubert eighth at the Bouldering World Cup start in China
World champion Jakob Schubert from Tyrol finished eighth at the Bouldering World Cup opener in Shaoxing, China. His teammate Jan-Luca Posch finished in ninth place in the Keqiao district on Wednesday. European champion Nicolai Uznik finished 14th, while Tomoa Narasaki and young star Sorato Anraku celebrated a Japanese double victory.
"Overall, I'm very happy with the whole competition and with my form. It's been a long time since I achieved such a good result in the first Boulder World Cup of the season. The result as a team was good, a cool performance from all of us," said Schubert, who, however, mourned an even better result. "More was certainly possible. I missed the chance to be right at the front."
The first lead competition of the season follows this weekend in Wujiang. Schubert and Jessica Pilz, who has also already qualified for the Olympics, will skip it, however. "The advantage of already being qualified for the Olympics is that I can train like I do most years. I train bouldering first and then lead, so I haven't trained lead yet," explained Schubert.
