"Is he a goalkeeper?
Mockery and derision after Bayern’s Kane penalty
In the Champions League round of 16 against FC Porto, David Raya had shone as a "penalty killer", but the Arsenal goalkeeper had no chance against Bayern Munich star Harry Kane's spot-kick in the quarter-final first leg on Tuesday evening. The keeper even had to put up with ridicule and mockery afterwards.
In the 32nd minute, Harry Kane stepped up to take a penalty and converted it safely into the right-hand corner. From the perspective of ex-footballer Rafael van der Vaart, however, David Raya made it pretty easy for the Englishman.
As a pundit on Dutch TV, Van der Vaart (pictured below right) was harshly critical of the Arsenal goalkeeper: "Look at Raya. Is he even a goalkeeper?"
The keeper decided far too early to take a corner: "Kane doesn't even make a move, but Raya is already falling to the ground."
Kane was well prepared
In the run-up to the Champions League match, Kane had taken a close look at Raya's behavior at penalties. And it paid off in the end. "He goes for corners early, so I had to change my style a bit, but that's part of it," said the Bayern striker. "It was nice to see him move early and make it easier for me."
