But the future is open
Disappointment and relief for ice speedway legend Zorn
Ice speedway legend Franky Zorn ended the season with a big disappointment at the World Championships. Nevertheless, the Saalfelden native can be satisfied with his races overall. However, the 53-year-old frowns when he looks at the costs of the past few months. His future is open.
"I'm just really disappointed" - Franky Zorn is definitely not a fan of euphemisms and doesn't beat around the bush. Instead of a medal at the World Championships, the Saalfelden native only finished in a disappointing eighth place. "We had high hopes. But a lot of things just didn't work out, often it was just little things," growls the 53-year-old, who personally gave the competition a "not good enough" at the end of the season.
Two out of three titles won
Zorn is relieved that the season on ice has come to an end. Despite the World Championship defeat, he can laugh. After all, Zorn was crowned European champion for the third time at the end of February in Sanok, Poland. He also won the Swedish league with his Strömsund team. "Two out of three titles were won," summarizes the Saalfelden native.
Whether and how things will continue next season is still up in the air. Above all, the sponsors have to play along again. "There's an avalanche of costs every year, just the fuel alone," groans Zorn. Prices would rise by up to ten percent per year. Personally, however, the fire is burning for the ice knight. He wants to keep driving! "It wouldn't be up to me," emphasizes the 53-year-old.
