Kilde reveals: How the marriage proposal to Shiffrin went

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Mikaela Shiffrin are engaged! The 31-year-old speed specialist revealed some details of his marriage proposal on Norwegian television.

It was a very special and funny moment, he said. "I don't think she was expecting it," said Kilde on the NRK talk show "Lindmo". 

Ring ordered from the hospital bed
The two have been a couple since 2021. The decision to marry Shiffrin came to him in hospital. As is well known, Kilde was seriously injured after his bad fall in Wengen and was first in hospital in Bern and then in his adopted home of Innsbruck. Then I called home and ordered a ring, which I then picked up from my brother," Kilde revealed. The big moment didn't come until a few weeks later. He picked Shiffrin up from the World Cup final in Saalbach. Back at Kilde's apartment in Innsbruck, he took the opportunity to ask his lady of the heart.

"You have to answer first!"
However, Kilde didn't reveal any further details: "Not everyone needs to know, but it was definitely funny." Mikaela asked him if he didn't want to put the ring on. "And I just said: But you have to answer first!"

The marriage proposal was apparently just as playful and heartfelt as the two are known from their numerous Instagram posts.

That's how expensive the engagement ring was
Incidentally, the Swiss newspaper Blick claims to have learned from an expert that Shiffrin's engagement ring cost a fortune. Lazar Cebbar from Zurich jeweler Fine Jewellery said: "I would estimate the emerald-cut diamond at 1.2 carats. The three-piece set with a front ring and a slip-on ring costs between 15,000 and 20,000 Swiss francs." In other words, between 15,300 and 20,400 euros.

It has not yet been decided when and where the wedding will take place. Fans will obviously have to be patient. "Probably in a few years," says Kilde. Until then, he has other things to focus on. For example, his return to the Ski World Cup...
