Police helicopter found him
Hiker fell 150 meters to his death in Tyrol
Sad result of a search operation in Wängle in the Tyrolean Außerfern: The crew of a police helicopter could only recover a missing German alpinist (43) dead on Sunday. The man had probably already fallen more than 150 meters on the Schneidspitze on Saturday.
At around 10.10 a.m. on Saturday morning, the hiker had sent his family a video message explaining that he had had to abandon the climb just below the summit due to the prevailing conditions on the Schneidspitze. When he was still not back in Germany that evening, his family filed a missing person's report with the German police.
Shortly before the descent, the man sent a video message to his relatives.

They informed their Tyrolean colleagues on Sunday, who then found the missing man's car in the parking lot of the Höfen cable car. As a result, the Libelle police helicopter took off on a search flight shortly afterwards.
Evidence points to a crash
After a short time, the sad certainty came: the crew discovered the German's body in the steep terrain on the eastern slope of the Schneidspitze just below the summit. Based on the evidence, the police assume that the 43-year-old slipped on a steep snowfield and subsequently fell around 150 meters.
