Julia Mayer runs 10-kilometer record in Paris!

Julia Mayer is unstoppable! At the "Asics Festival of Running" in Paris, she finished a great sixth in 32:28 minutes, setting a new Austrian record in the 10-kilometer road race. She improved on her best time of 32:49 set two years ago in Karlovac by 21 seconds. This was a perfect test for her start at the Vienna City Marathon on April 21.

"I never expected to be able to run a new record today. The race was actually intended as a quick training run for the marathon. I'm very, very happy with my time and my placing," said Mayer. The circuit in the heart of Paris was not easy to run.

"Difficult to run!"
"It had rained slightly during the race - and so it was a bit slippery," said Austria's record-breaking runner, "it was especially difficult to run a big turning curve because of the rain." But once again she mastered all the difficulties perfectly and achieved her third Austrian record in the 10-kilometre road race (see statistics).

"A dream!
After the race, Mayer was also asked for an interview with World Athletics, the world federation partner of this fantastic event. There she gushed with beaming eyes: "The new record is a dream, everything went perfectly for me in the end!"

Second best European
winner was Likina Amebaw (Ethiopia) in 29:56 - in a crazy finish one second ahead of Loice Chemmung (Kenya). Mayer's sixth place in the world-class field was a minor sensation. Behind the Italian Nadia Battocletti, who also ran a national record in fourth place in 31:19, the Austrian was the second best European!
