Lithuania wants to supply Ukraine with 3000 drones

Lithuania will provide Ukraine with further military aid for its defense against Russia's war of aggression. Following a meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal, head of government Ingrida Simonyte announced the imminent purchase and delivery of around 3,000 drones for the attacked country.

The unmanned aerial vehicles, worth a total of around 20 million euros, should reach the front line by the end of this year, Simonyte said in Vilnius on Friday.

Rehabilitation program for injured soldiers
The Baltic EU and NATO country will also begin developing a rehabilitation program for injured Ukrainian soldiers. According to Simonyte, the government in Vilnius intends to provide up to 15 million euros for this purpose.

Lithuania's Prime Minister also did not rule out the possibility of her country sending soldiers to the country attacked by Russia for training. Pointing out that military instructors were already teaching Ukrainian troops in Lithuania and elsewhere, Simonyte said: "Could they be trained in Ukraine? With adequate air defense, it is certainly possible to manage these risks."

Ukraine's staunchest supporter
Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for more than two years and is largely dependent on Western support for its military equipment. Lithuania is one of the most determined supporters of Ukraine internationally.

According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the Baltic state has supported Ukraine with aid worth around 1.5 percent of its economic output since the start of the Russian war of aggression in February 2022. "We appreciate this very much," he said.
