3.8 million bid
Muhammed Ali’s “Manila pants” to be auctioned off
The white boxing pants worn by Muhammed Ali in his legendary boxing match "Thrilla in Manila" in 1975 are currently being auctioned in New York. Since the end of March, the auction house Sotheby's has been accepting bids for the shorts personally signed by the US boxing legend. The highest bid on Friday was 3.8 million dollars (around 3.5 million euros). The auction will run until April 12.
However, the minimum price demanded by the seller of the shorts has not yet been reached. Sotheby's estimates that the boxing shorts could fetch up to six million dollars.
Other items of clothing worn by prominent athletes are also currently up for auction at Sotheby's - including several jerseys worn by NBA star Victor Wembanyama.
In November, a jersey worn by the Frenchman in his very first NBA game fetched 762,000 dollars - almost ten times its estimated value.
