3×3 quartet named for Olympic qualifying tournament

Matthias Linortner, Nico Kaltenbrunner, Enis Murati and Fabio Söhnel make up Austria's selection for the first 3x3 basketball qualifying tournament for this year's Summer Olympics! Men's team manager Milan Isakov announced the line-up on Thursday. From April 12 to 14, the quartet has the chance to win an Olympic ticket in Hong Kong; only the winner of the eight teams will travel to Paris. One of their opponents could be Tokyo Olympic champions Latvia. 

Linortner, Kaltenbrunner and Murati are all successfully involved in the World Tour as part of "Team Vienna", while Söhnel from Vorarlberg has impressed in preparation, according to the federation.

Quincy Diggs, who was born in the USA and has been an Austrian citizen since October 2023, is not allowed to compete for Red-White-Red. The FIBA rules stipulate that only players who were citizens of their country before January 1, 2022 are eligible to play. Austria's association was denied a request for an exemption.

After the qualifying tournament in Hong Kong, there will be another chance to take part in the Olympics at another event in Debrecen in May.
