90-ton forklift overturns, driver trapped in cab

The 48-year-old driver of a container stacker had a stroke of luck on Thursday afternoon in Hall in Tirol (Innsbruck-Land district). The 90-tonne vehicle tipped over, trapping the driver in the cab. However, the incident could have turned out much worse. 

The German, who lives in Austria, was busy loading a container loaded with round timber (weighing 34 tons) with the 90-ton forklift shortly before 12 noon on a company site in Hall when the vehicle suddenly tipped forward for reasons that are not yet fully understood.

Rescued unharmed by the fire department
The forklift came to rest on its lifting element, with the extended hydraulic cylinders blocking the door of the driver's cab. As a result, the 48-year-old was unable to free himself from the truck. The Hall in Tirol volunteer fire department had to get the German out of the cab. As it turned out, he was not injured in the accident.
