Austria U17
Dream of reaching the European Championship quarter-finals lives on after draw
The draw for the U17 European Championship (starting May 20 in Cyprus) brought a highly interesting and ideally feasible task for Austria's young players.
In front of the eyes of team boss Martin Scherb, Red-White-Red were drawn against Denmark, Croatia and Wales in Group B.
"Our goal is to perform like we did in the qualifiers. Then the results will also be good, I'm convinced of that," said Scherb after the draw for the "Krone". The Danes already know the Austrians from the qualifiers, where they drew 2:2 after being two goals down. The last clash between this year's team and Croatia was also only a year ago, when Austria won 4:1 at a development tournament. Wales are the (still) unknown quantity in this group.
But Scherb knows: "What is certain is that we will face three very different styles of play. We're all really looking forward to it!" And the big goal is clear: the top two from each of the four groups will advance to the quarter-finals.
U17 European Championship in Cyprus, the ÖFB matches in Group B:

May 23: Austria - Wales
May 26: Austria - Denmark.
