Club rages after verdict
After fan attacks: Hammer punishment for Trabzonspor
Following the fan attacks in the Turkish Süper Lig, the disciplinary committee of the Turkish Football Association has imposed severe penalties on Trabzonspor. Among other things, the club must play six home matches without spectators and pay a fine of around three million lira (around 90,000 euros), as the committee announced on Wednesday.
Trabzonspor reacted harshly to the fine on the platform X, formerly Twitter. It said: "To hell with your justice. Resign." The Turkish Football Association's account was linked underneath.
Supporters of the traditional club Trabzonspor had stormed the pitch during a match in mid-March after the 2:3 against Fenerbahce Istanbul and attacked the opponent's players and coach. Pictures show violent confrontations. Fans and players attacked each other with punches and kicks.
Fenerbahce players Jayden Oosterwolde and Irfan Can Egribayat were banned from the game and fined. Trabzonspor assistant coach Egemen Korkmaz was also fined and banned from the players' dressing room and substitutes' bench.
The Istanbul club Fenerbahce announced on Tuesday evening that it was still considering leaving the league. According to the Anadolu news agency, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc said that a decision would be made at the club's general assembly in three months' time. The reason was not only the riots at the match in March, but also a number of other unfortunate situations in the league that have been patiently endured for a long time, said Koc.
