Hitler salute, violence, xenophobia: 8 months in prison
On Wednesday, a 28-year-old woman from Linz was brought before the regional court on a number of charges. She allegedly gave the Hitler salute in Linz's old town last summer and insulted a person as a "fucking foreigner" who "should be gassed". The drunk woman also allegedly tried to hit someone on the back of the head with a bottle.
At the end of the trial, the court handed down the following - not legally binding - sentence: eight months unconditional imprisonment for intentional grievous bodily harm, negligent grievous bodily harm and crimes under the Prohibition Act.
Freaked out while intoxicated
Flashback to August 2023: A 28-year-old woman is said to have first shown the Hitler salute in a pub in Linz's old town before vilely insulting a person outside, in Hofgasse, as a "fucking foreigner" who should be "deported and gassed".
The intoxicated 28-year-old is also alleged to have tried to hit someone else on the back of the head with a bottle - a friend was able to fend off the attack, but is said to have suffered injuries himself. These are the accusations of the prosecution.
Partially confessed
According to a court spokesperson, the 28-year-old partially confessed at the trial. When accused of giving the Hitler salute, the defendant referred to her alcohol intoxication.
In addition to the eight months' unconditional prison sentence, which was not legally binding, the verdict also included 16 months conditionally suspended for three years.
