Cameroon's soccer association has reacted with surprise to the appointment of Belgian Marc Brys as the new team manager. The country's sports ministry had previously announced on the television news that the 61-year-old would succeed Rigobert Song. Song's contract expired in February and was not renewed.
No agreements
In a statement published on Wednesday, the association expressed "great astonishment" at this course of action following the announcement of Brys' appointment. There had apparently been no prior agreements regarding the appointment to the post.
Song had failed to reach the semi-finals of the Africa Cup in the Ivory Coast. Cameroon were defeated by Nigeria in the round of 16. Brys, who has hardly any African experience to date, is now expected to lead the team to the 2026 World Cup.
