A 114-year-old man who had been the world's oldest man since 2022 has died in Venezuela. "Juan Vicente Pérez Mora has passed into eternity at the age of 114", declared Venezuelan head of state Nicolás Maduro on Tuesday (local time) in the online service X.

The Guinness Book of Records officially confirmed Pérez as the oldest man on earth on February 4, 2022. At that time, the Venezuelan was 112 years and 253 days old.

Pérez leaves behind a large number of descendants. According to the 2022 records, the father of eleven children had a total of 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren. The farmer known as Tio Vicente was born on May 27, 1909 in El Cobre in the Andean state of Táchira, the ninth of ten children. According to the Guinness Book of Records, he began helping his father and brothers with farming tasks such as harvesting sugar cane and coffee at the age of five.
