No stadium in Vienna
The Vikings dock in Wiener Neustadt
Now the cat is out of the bag! The Vienna Vikings will play the majority of their home games in Wr. Neustadt in the upcoming European League of Football season. The first two match days will take place at Austria's Generali-Arena, after which they will travel to the south of Vienna. The search for a permanent home venue in the capital remains unsuccessful.
"They welcomed us with open arms and actively approached us. We can offer the fans a great overall package there," says Vikings Owner Robin Lumsden.
"We are looking forward to hot games here in the Wiener Neustadt ERGO Arena with the Vienna Vikings, the European football figurehead," says Mayor Klaus Schneeberger, welcoming the Vikings.
"It was important to us that the venue is easily accessible by public transport. There is also a large parking lot." Lumsden knows that the traditional American football tailgating, a gathering of fans in the parking lots before the game with a barbecue, is also possible in Wr. This was not possible in Vienna, even with special permits. "We have a partnership with the nearby outdoor pool, and there will be shuttle buses from the train station and the city center to the stadium on match days." So the Vikings will also be celebrating big football festivals outside Vienna.
