"We were with him and sang 'Amazing Grace' when he passed away!" Jennifer Garner weeps for her beloved father. William Garner died "peacefully" on Sunday, surrounded by his family. 

His daughter informed the world via Instagram a day later: "While the death of an 85-year-old who had a healthy and wonderful life is not a tragedy - grief is inevitable and waits in unexpected corners!"

The 51-year-old reviewed her father's life with gratitude for "his gentle nature and quiet strength". Including photos from different stages of his life.

Garner also wrote what she will miss most: "His challenging rascal smile and how he invented the role of the patient father of daughters who was always there for us."

"Was able to travel to favorite places once again"
The mother of three, who has daughters Violet (18), Seraphina (15) and son Samuel (12) with ex-husband Ben Affleck, then thanked all the doctors, nurses and caregivers who looked after him: "Through your care and treatment, Dad's life was extended and he was able to travel to his favorite places once again. Surrounded by his daughters and grandchildren, cheering on his beloved Aggies (Texas A&M University's college football team), captaining his boat, and - most of all - having extra time with his beloved wife, our mom."
