Sadness and dismay in the martial arts scene: Rob Kaman, a true legend of kickboxing and Thai boxing, died on Easter Sunday! The Dutchman, also known as "Mr. Low Kick" because of his showpiece "weapon", was 63 years old ...

"Rob has passed away" - this is how Carlotta, Kaman's ex-wife, introduced the news of his death on Instagram. "Although we had been separated for a while, I created this post for him. I will love you forever. We will love you forever," she wrote. She will add the date of the funeral later ...

Nine world championship titles
Kaman was a pioneer of his sport in the Netherlands and won a total of nine world championship titles in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Amsterdam native fought 112 official fights - and won 97 of them, 77 by knockout. In 1983, he also became the first European to win the world championship in kickboxing.

Co-founder of 'Dutch Style Kickboxing'
On the occasion of Kaman's passing, the Dutch Martial Arts Association (NVB) took the opportunity to praise his pioneering work for the sport.

"Rob was a co-founder of the internationally renowned 'Dutch Style Kickboxing'," said Sem Schilt. With his extremely hard "low kicks", Kaman "left such an impression that he inspired an entire generation worldwide".
