"Contact with Hamas"
Israel arrests sister of Hamas leader
According to the Israeli police, they have arrested the relative of a senior member of the Islamist Hamas for suspected security offenses. According to Israeli media reports, the woman in question is the sister of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who lives in Qatar.
The 57-year-old, who was arrested in Tel Sheva in southern Israel, is suspected of having "maintained contact with Hamas activists", according to the police statement. She identifies with a terrorist organization and is accused of incitement and supporting terrorist attacks in Israel.
Still to appear before a judge on Monday
"During the raid on her home, the security forces found documents, media equipment, telephones and other findings and evidence linking her to serious security offenses against the State of Israel," it continued. She is to be brought before a magistrate on Monday.
Israeli media had reported in the past that three of Haniyeh's sisters had married Bedouins in southern Israel and become Israeli citizens.
