Fire in duty room
No rescue transports to Kittsee hospital possible
A fire broke out in a staff room at Kittsee Hospital in Burgenland on Sunday afternoon. Although the flames were quickly extinguished, the ambulance service is unable to transport patients to the hospital for the time being.
One ward had to be evacuated and the patients were transferred in-house. No one was injured in the fire, according to the Burgenland Regional Safety Center. The emergency services were alerted at around 3 p.m. on Sunday and were on site after around five minutes. Half an hour later, the flames were extinguished by three fire departments.
"Pure material damage"
According to the hospital's commercial director, Dieter Feitek, the search for the cause of the fire is still ongoing. "The important thing is that nobody was injured and that it was purely material damage." A room above the internal medicine ward was affected. "Operations are safe in any case," said Feitek.
Franz Öller, Commercial Director of Gesundheit Burgenland, regretted the inconvenience for the patients and thanked "all those involved and helpers at the clinic, as well as the Kittsee fire department and the police for their exemplary response to this fire".
Cleaning work began immediately. Rescue transports cannot be sent to Kittsee for the time being.
