25 degrees: Holy Saturday is the first summer day in the country
Holy Saturday is now officially the first summer day of 2024. In the early afternoon, Geosphere Austria registered the 25-degree mark at the Oberndorf an der Melk weather station (Scheibbs district), which by definition is decisive for a summer day.
Summer days are rare in Austria in March and last occurred in 2021, 2017, 2016, 2006, 2004, 1990, 1989, 1981, 1977, 1974, 1968, 1955 and 1953. In an average year, the first summer day of the year occurs in mid-April.
Rare summer days in March
The earliest summer day in Austria's measurement history was recorded on March 18, 2004 (25.3 degrees in Pottschach, Lower Austria), according to Geosphere Austria.
However, it was not only warm in Oberndorf on Holy Saturday. Maximum temperatures of 24 degrees were also measured in Upper Austria and Vorarlberg.
