Sahara dust makes the Karawanks disappear

It remains to be seen whether we will also experience "blood rain", as the Weather Channel luridly predicts for Germany. The Sahara is currently causing poor visibility.

Normally, you can get an impressive view of Hochobir, Oistra, Topitza and Petzen. But today the view over the Jauntal valley is clouded by Sahara dust. The dust has also made itself felt in the other federal provinces - in Tyrol in particular, visibility has been clouded for days.

"In certain weather conditions, Saharan dust in northern Africa is whirled up by strong winds and transported to higher air layers. From there, it can be transported over long distances by the corresponding large-scale air flow," explains GeoSphere Austria.
