Bulgarian Dimitrov follows Sinner into the Miami final

Grigor Dimitrov will meet South Tyrolean Jannik Sinner in the final of the ATP Masters tournament in Miami. The Bulgarian knocked the German Alexander Zverev out of the tournament in three sets in the semi-finals.

South Tyrol's Jannik Sinner and Bulgaria's figurehead Grigor Dimitrov will play in the final of the ATP Masters tournament in Miami. Dimitrov knocked the German Alexander Zverev out of the competition 6:4,6:7(4),6:4 in the night from Friday to Saturday, before that Sinner had already booked his third Miami final with an easy 6:1,6:2 over Daniil Medvedev from Russia in a rematch of the recent Australian Open final.

Sinner strung together his fifth win in Florida against the world number four Medvedev. The 22-year-old beat him three times in the final in the last six months. Sinner had lost his first six matches on the ATP Tour against Medvedev, including the Miami final last year. Since last October, however, the tide has turned impressively.

Sinner plays for second place
With another victory, his 22nd in the 23rd match of the year, he would move up one place past Carlos Alcaraz in the world rankings to second place. Sinner currently leads 2:1 against Dimitrov, but the Bulgarian's victory dates back to 2020, when Sinner's rise was just beginning.

Dimitrov, who was once praised as the "baby Federer" and eliminated Alcaraz in the semi-finals, is currently in strong form. The 32-year-old could break into the top 10 again for the first time since 2018. One break each in the first and third sets was enough for him to beat Zverev for the first time in almost ten years; the 26-year-old German only had the upper hand in the tiebreak of the second set.
