Mystical atmosphere
Sahara dust has been clouding visibility in Tyrol for days
If you step outside your front door in Tyrol at the moment, you will see a phenomenon that has also been observed at this time of year in previous years. The Sahara dust clouds visibility in the distance and creates an almost mystical atmosphere. The "Tiroler Krone" took a video (above) and photos of the weather spectacle.
The experts at GeoSphere Austria explain the phenomenon, which is not the first time it has been observed in Tyrol: "In certain weather conditions, Saharan dust in northern Africa is whirled up by strong winds and transported to higher layers of air. From there, it can be transported over long distances by the corresponding large-scale air flow."
Saharan dust has been hanging over Tyrol since Tuesday
The Sahara dust has been hanging over Tyrol since Tuesday. It should gradually disappear again from Monday. The forecast precipitation should wash it out of the air. Incidentally, the peak of the pollution is likely to be reached on Sunday afternoon.
