Dietician with tips
How to eat properly again after fasting
The 40 days of abstinence have come to an end for devout Christians. Dietician Maria Wolfesberger from the Ordensklinikum der Elisabethinen in Linz has some important tips for getting the body used to "normal" food again after the fasting period.
"You should definitely start with easily digestible foods. High-fat meals or preparation methods such as deep-frying or breading are not recommended. Hard-to-digest vegetables such as leeks, garlic and onions should also be banned for the time being," recommends Wolfesberger. It is also possible that after a strict fasting period, liquid dairy products may be less digestible for a certain period of time. The body can also react sensitively to caffeine and alcohol.
You can eat a schnitzel at a family celebration. You can replace the chips with potatoes, for example, and also order a salad.

Permanent change in diet
The dietician sees the fasting period as the perfect introduction to a permanent change in diet. Preferred luxury foods do not have to disappear from the diet permanently, but should be reduced. As examples, the expert mentions "less sugar in drinks" or "reducing the amount of fat in cooking". According to the expert, a more pronounced sense of taste is another positive aspect in addition to shedding pounds. Flavors are perceived much more intensely again.
