"The right place"
Xabi Alonso’s future: decision made!
There has long been speculation about the future of Xabi Alonso, but now the decision has been made: The Spaniard will remain loyal to Bayer Leverkusen!
"This is the right place for me to develop as a coach," Alonso announced on Friday.
Xabi Alonso will remain at Leverkusen beyond the summer. "There was a lot of speculation and I wanted to use the international break to make a decision," Alonso announced at the press conference ahead of the clash with Hoffenheim (Saturday, 3.30 pm/live in the sportkrone.at ticker).
According to "Bild", the 42-year-old Spaniard has already informed FC Bayern that he will not be moving to Säbener Straße for the coming season. The Munich club had repeatedly expressed great interest.
"Job not over yet"
"My job at Bayer is not over yet. I want to help the club, help the players to develop, the board is great ... everything is fantastic here. I'm still a young coach, but I think this is the best decision for my future," said Alonso. Leverkusen are currently top of the German Bundesliga, ten points ahead of FC Bayern. The club is in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup and is also still in the title race in the Europa League.
Rangnick unlikely to succeed Tuchel
If a Sky report is to be believed, Ralf Rangnick will not be the successor to Bayern coach Thomas Thuchel. Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi, however, is said to still be on Munich's shortlist.
