National coach jokes
Julian Nagelsmann: “… then there’ll be a lawsuit!”
Julian Nagelsmann also commented on the suspended Leroy Sané at a press conference during Germany's test match against the Netherlands. It was important to the national coach not to be misunderstood. "Otherwise there'll be a lawsuit," joked Nagelsmann.
Background: Sané is condemned to watch the game against Holland due to his red card against ÖFB defender Phillipp Mwene. Despite his brutal attack against the 30-year-old, the Bayern professional knows he has Nagelsmann's backing. "He has a very good character, but he will also have to fit in like everyone else," explained the 36-year-old.
"Doesn't want to read a headline"
A statement that probably struck some of the journalists present as if Sané were facing a character test when the bench threatens. "I wasn't talking about a character test. I said he has to fit in, that's a big difference," Nagelsmann wants to make clear. "I don't want to read a headline saying: 'Nagelsmann is testing Sané's character'. Then there'll be a lawsuit from my media lawyer ... Just kidding, I don't have one."
Germany's national soccer team got off to a successful start to Euro 2024 with a 2:0 win against France. On Tuesday, the Nagelsmann squad will welcome Ronald Koeman's envious Dutch side to Frankfurt's Deutsche Bank Park.
