"Team Report"
Ralf Rangnick and the captain of the future
If Marcel Sabitzer is indeed out on Tuesday, a new captain will have to be found - number four in the hierarchy, as number one (David Alaba) and number two (Marko Arnautovic) are also missing through injury.
The first candidate is Konrad Laimer, "but we have several leading players and candidates," says team boss Ralf Rangnick, who includes Christoph Baumgartner, Michael Gregoritsch and Xaver Schlager: "There are enough players who have something to say and play a role. Basically, it's important for us anyway that everyone takes responsibility on the pitch; in modern soccer, the days of leaning on two or three players are over. Everyone is required and in demand."
Seiwald as captain of the future?
Rangnick has one player in mind: "If I look at the next four or five years, Nici Seiwald is certainly someone who can be a leader."
Speaking of Alaba: the team boss is also pleased with his recovery progress following cruciate ligament surgery - "but despite all the hope that it will be enough, it will be a tight race, we have to be realistic and know in the back of our minds what we have to do then. We should be able to say more at the beginning or middle of May."
