Skeleton from Grundlsee
DNA confirmed: It is not Friedrich Felzmann
The skeleton found above a hiking trail on Lake Grundlsee recently caused a huge stir. There were suspicions that the dead man could be the suspected double murderer Friedrich Felzmann. DNA testing has now confirmed that this is not the case. It is the mortal remains of a missing Viennese man.
At the beginning of March, a forester and his dog found a completely skeletonized corpse at Grundlsee (Liezen district). A rusty shotgun lay next to the bones. The identity of the dead man could not be established quickly.
Wrong weapon, wrong shoe size
Speculation quickly arose that it could be Friedrich Felzmann, the double murderer from Stiwol. But several facts quickly put paid to this hope. It wasn't just the wrong weapon - Felzmann shot his neighbors with a small-calibre rifle - the shoe size was also incorrect. Felzmann was wearing size 43, one size larger than the corpse.
Missing since summer 2021
And last but not least, the DNA did not match either. A comparison on Tuesday revealed that the remains were those of a Viennese man who had been reported missing since the summer of 2021. The then 52-year-old had been reported missing by an old acquaintance who had been looking for the former photographer. The Viennese man, whose messy apartment suggested mental health problems, is believed to have taken his own life.
