Former NHL forward Konstantin Koltsov has "suddenly passed away" at the age of 42 in Florida in the USA, according to a statement from the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation on Tuesday! He was the boyfriend of two-time tennis Grand Slam winner Aryna Sabalenka.
A statement from the federation on Tuesday initially said only: "The Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation expresses its deepest condolences to Konstantin's family, friends and all those who knew and worked with him."
As the Miami Police Department later announced in a statement, an emergency call had been received after a man had jumped from the balcony of a hotel. The homicide squad had begun an investigation, but Koltsov's death was being treated as an apparent suicide.
Koltsov played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the American professional NHL league from 2002 to 2006. He then played for various Russian clubs and the Belarusian national team. He ended his professional career in 2016.

Koltsov most recently worked as an assistant coach at the Russian club Salavat Yulaev. "He was a strong and cheerful person who was loved and respected by players, colleagues and fans. May he rest in peace," the club reacted in shock on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old was the boyfriend of Aryna Sabalenka, number 2 in the tennis world rankings. The couple first appeared together in public in 2021. It is another blow of fate for the 25-year-old. She had already lost her father early in 2019. It is currently uncertain whether she will take part in the Miami Open this week as originally planned.
