After the FA Cup exit
“Stupid question!” Klopp tells off reporter and leaves
The dream of winning the FA Cup is over for Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC. The coach was in a correspondingly bad mood when he verbally abused a reporter after the game and cut the interview short.
The "Reds" lost to Manchester United in a dramatic quarter-final. United's Amad Diallo scored the decisive goal for the home side at Old Trafford in the 121st minute of the spectacular 3:4 after extra time on Sunday. Klopp must therefore write off the first of four possible titles in his farewell season.
After the match, a reporter got a taste of Klopp's bad mood. "A bit of a stupid question, I have to say," said the German. "I'm really disappointed about that question, but you obviously thought it was a good one," Klopp venomed, before breaking off the interview. His interviewee was "obviously not in a good frame of mind", Klopp said. "I have no nerve for you".
Clip goes viral
The journalist from the Scandinavian TV channel Viaplay only wanted to know why Klopp's team lacked intensity in the final straight. This apparently upset the cult coach - the clip of the interview went viral online.
"That was the first time I saw my team really struggling. That's the way it is, we've played a lot of soccer recently," said Klopp a little later at the press conference: "Congratulations to United, they also fought very hard."
There is now some time to digest the defeat. Liverpool now have an international break. On March 31, they continue their league campaign at home to Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield Road.
