Bregenz vs. Dornbirn
The clubs are tingling ahead of the Ländle derby
When SW Bregenz host FC Dornbirn in the derby today, the roles are actually quite clear. The provincial capital is in the top third of the table, with ambitions of second place. In contrast, the Messestadt side are in second-last place with twelve defeats in a row. They have not scored a goal in their last three games.
But that doesn't necessarily mean much for today's derby. The rules are different in the duels between the local rivals, as every sports fan knows. And that's why the game is partly like any other for the coaches, but also special.
SW coach Markus Mader faces his former club and Dornbirn coach Eric Orie, a friend. "The game itself leaves me cold, I've experienced a lot of derbies," says Mader, "but Eric makes it a bit special this time - because we don't know what to expect. He will certainly do a few things differently than last time."
After all, sporting director Orie took over the Rothosen following the resignation of coach Roman Ellensohn last Sunday and is on the line for the first time today. "It's a different tingle than normal. But nothing makes me nervous anymore this season," laughs the Dutchman, "I'm hoping for a successful, but not necessarily beautiful game."
Preparation not optimal
The weather did not allow for optimal preparation - due to the deep training pitches, Bregenz had to switch to artificial turf, while Dornbirn were not much better off. The clubs are not quite complete either. Captain Ivo Kralj (ligament injury), Matheus Favali (thigh) and Florian Prisch (knee) are missing for the Black & Whites. Ramon Tanque is suspended for Dornbirn. Captain Willy Rodrigues, on the other hand, was fit in time.
