Trouble with cell phone signatures for referendums

Carinthian feels thwarted because he is not allowed to sign nine of the current 14 petitions digitally.

A total of 92 referendums have been launched since 1964. Another 14 (Bist du Gescheit, Neutral, Nein zum E-Autozwang and so on) can still be supported with signatures up to and including Monday evening.

Klaus B. from the district of St. Veit also wanted to take part, using his cell phone signature from home. But that's when the trouble started. "I was only given the opportunity to do this for five referendums. The other nine were blocked. I was told that I should have signed them on May 24 or September 8, 2022. But that's not true," the Carinthian is surprised.

However, his attempt to obtain information from the relevant municipal office failed: "Nobody can be reached at the Citizens' Service at the weekend. How is a referendum supposed to be processed correctly?"

"No technical problems"
When asked by the "Krone", the Ministry of the Interior stated that there were no technical problems. Press spokesman Paul Eidenberger: "We assume that the gentleman signed the declarations of support for the nine referendums in 2022 and is therefore no longer eligible. This signature is automatically added to the referendum petition."
