Result corrected: SPÖ strongest force in Golling
The "Krone" reported on the counting error in the local council elections in Golling, just under a week later the result has been corrected: The SPÖ is now officially the strongest parliamentary group in the Tennengau town.
As reported, the Obergäu polling station in Golling counted the votes correctly, but mixed up the votes for the SPÖ and FPÖ when transmitting the data. "Embarrassing", called Neo-Mayor Martin Dietrich this mistake. The Freedom Party demanded a recount of the votes - but this was rejected by the district electoral authority. The authority met on Friday and reached a unanimous decision: the election result from Sunday will be corrected, with two seats in the local parliament moving from the FPÖ to the Social Democrats led by election winner Dietrich.
"Unbelievable, we are now the strongest parliamentary group in the traditionally black town," cheers Dietrich. The bitter failure of the People's Party in figures: ÖVP mayor Peter Harlander was defeated by his SPÖ opponent Martin Dietrich by 44 to 56 percent in the direct election. The People's Party lost its absolute majority, falling from 13 to 9 seats.
