83-year-old speeding driver causes fatal car accident

An 83-year-old man caused a terrible traffic accident in Lower Austria on Thursday: the elderly driver is said to have overtaken a car in front of him at a significantly excessive speed and then crashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle. All help came too late for the 53-year-old driver.

The 83-year-old Upper Austrian was driving his car on the B122 in Behamberg (Amstetten district) on Thursday. He is said to have overtaken the vehicle in front of him despite the double barrier line. In doing so, he collided head-on with the oncoming car of the 53-year-old. All help came too late for the Hungarian.

Two other vehicles were touched in the accident or flung into a ditch.

Three injured people taken to hospital
The 83-year-old was seriously injured and flown to hospital in Wels by emergency helicopter. The two other drivers involved - men aged 43 and 58 - were taken to hospital in Steyr with injuries.
