New rules for shower water: pool operators outraged
In addition to the acute shortage of lifeguard staff, Italy's summer season could now also be spoiled by new water supply regulations.
The lido operators are angry. From the summer, bathers must be guaranteed showers with drinking water, even at the seaside and in swimming pools. In many places, however, there is currently no connection to the water network and the showers are supplied with water from wells. Operators now fear considerable additional costs and warn that hotels and vacation apartments could run dry in summer.
Operators fight against regulations
Supply bottlenecks, especially in the hot summer months, would be a real danger, warns the Confesercenti trade association, which represents many lido operators. Those in Tuscany have asked the regional parliament to repeal the new regulations.
Severe penalties loom
Those who do not comply with the new regulations will face severe penalties and even closure. The operators of the bathing establishments now want to challenge the measure in court.
