Full speed ahead on the way to becoming the number 1 cycling country

In 2023, around five million euros were invested in the expansion of the cycling infrastructure, in five years it should be 25 million. The popular "Burgenland cycles" campaign starts on March 20.

The expansion of the cycling infrastructure and the implementation of basic cycling networks in all districts is one of the key projects of Burgenland's overall transport strategy. "Since 2022, the state has been pushing ahead at full speed with the cycle path attraction program - and very successfully," says Heinrich Dorner.

30 new kilometers in 2023
Last year alone, according to the Transport Minister, 25 infrastructure projects with a total length of 30 kilometers and construction costs of around five million euros, including municipal projects, were implemented. "Safe, high-quality and direct cycle connections between the towns and in the centers are a prerequisite for increasing the number of cyclists and gradually making Burgenland the number one cycling state in the coming years."

A total of around 25 million euros will be invested over five years to bring the cycle paths throughout the province up to date.

"Burgenland cycles" through the state again 
Of course, it is also important to make the people of Burgenland want to cycle. One contribution to this is the popular participatory campaign "Burgenland cycles", which starts on March 20. "Anyone who registers at burgenland.radelt.at or the app and diligently collects kilometers by 30 September 2024 can win great prizes again this year," reveals Christine Zopf-Renner from the Burgenland Mobility Center. "Every bike ride counts! Municipalities, businesses and clubs can also take part."
