This year's Chamber of Labor elections in Carinthia were clearly won by the Social Democratic trade unionists. With their top candidate and incumbent AK President Günther Goach, they were able to claim 69.3 percent of the votes. The final election results will be presented on March 18.
The incumbent AK President Günther Goach remains at the top. He was able to win 69.3 percent of the votes for his list in this year's AK elections, which took place in Carinthia from March 4 to 13. "The voters have placed a great deal of trust in us. This is a clear mandate to continue to fight with full force for employee rights and, above all, for relief. The AK is the voice of Carinthian employees. I feel committed to their interests," says election winner Günther Goach.
Remaining distribution of votes on the lists
The Freiheitliche Arbeitnehmer - FPÖ (FA-FPÖ), with top candidate Manfred Mischelin, achieved 18.6 percent. The FCG-ÖAAB - Kärntner Arbeitnehmer:innen (FCG - ÖAAB) - with Christian Struger as top candidate, achieved 5.2 percent. The alternative, Unabhängige Gewerkschafter*innen Kärnten (AUGE/UG), with Roland Ressmann as lead candidate, ran for the first time and received 3.1 percent of the vote. The GLB Gewerkschaftlicher Linksblock (GLB), with Cristina Tamas as lead candidate, received 0.9 percent. The General List of Healthcare Workers (ALG) with its lead candidate Roswitha Tomic also ran for the first time and received 2.9 percent of the vote.
This would mean 50 seats for the Goach list, 13 for the Freedom Party, three for the ÖAAB and two for the AUGE/UG and the ALG. The GLB did not win any seats.
Voter turnout of 32.5 percent
"Around 32.5 percent of those entitled to vote exercised their right to vote. 179,197 employees were called to the polls, 13,960 of whom voted by post and 43,513 in the company districts. A total of 58,200 votes were cast, 57,178 of which were valid," says election manager Maximilian Turrini.
The final result of the AK election in Carinthia will be known on Monday, March 18, after all the ballot cards have been counted.
