Thousands of euros stolen
Internet fraud: perpetrator tracked down in Bulgaria
A successful manhunt by the Carinthian police: after an internet scam, the officers tracked down a 23-year-old suspect. He is based in Bulgaria.
This well-known sales platform on the Internet was new territory for a 36-year-old woman from Klagenfurt. So she was not surprised when she was contacted by the supposed customer service and asked to take several authorization steps when she wanted to sell goods digitally for the first time.
In the end, the unsuspecting victim ended up on an external website where she had to enter the authorization number of her bank account. Which the woman did - much to her chagrin. Only then did the 36-year-old become skeptical, but by then it was already too late. When she looked at her account to make sure, several thousand euros were gone.
File sent to Bulgaria
After extensive and persistent investigations, officers from the Annabichl police station were able to follow the trail of the suspected cyber fraudster. And these led to Bulgaria, to a 23-year-old suspect. Now that charges have been filed, foreign colleagues are being brought into the manhunt.
