Food delivery staff walk off the job in protest
Employees of the delivery service Lieferando protested on Tuesday with warning strikes in Salzburg and Linz for better pay. Negotiations on a better collective agreement for bicycle delivery staff have been stalling for months.
In the city of Salzburg and in Linz, many people had to wait longer for their food delivery today, Tuesday, in the early afternoon. The reason: delivery staff from the delivery service Lieferando went on strike. The employees went on strike in front of the delivery base in Salzburg-Schallmoos for more money. Between 1 and 3 p.m., the bikes of the bicycle messengers stood still.
Lieferando's orange food couriers, who are present in the city of Salzburg, are on duty in all weathers - even late at night. According to the collective agreement, the bike couriers currently earn around 1730 euros gross. Negotiations for a better collective agreement have been stalled for months. With an inflation rate of 8.7 percent last year, the employers' latest offer is currently only 5.7 percent.
"The employers don't want to move an inch," explains Zeidi Hamiko from the vida trade union. The works council and trade union are demanding an increase in pay for the 5,000 or so bike messengers across Austria. Employees of delivery services in Vienna and Graz, for example, already went on strike last week. At Lieferando in Salzburg's Gabelsbergerstraße, around 100 food cyclists are currently on strike.
