Cheating! Cameroon’s soccer association suspends 62 players
Great excitement surrounding Cameroon's footballers! After the national association tried to clarify how old its players really are, a total of 62 cases of cheating are said to have been uncovered - the players concerned have now been banned.
Among the professionals is said to be Wilfried Nathan Douala, who was allegedly the youngest player in Cameroon's squad for last January's Africa Cup at the age of 17.
According to the federation (FECAFOOT), he also lied about his age and has now been banned from participating in the play-off matches of the country's elite league.
Not the first incident
This is by no means the first time that Cameroon has had to deal with this problem: in 2022, the association had already summoned 44 players to a hearing for age or identity fraud, and in January 2023, 21 out of 30 players from the squad were banned from upcoming U17 matches.
