Amok run threat: School was evacuated
A threat to run amok caused a stir in Garsten in Upper Austria. A school was evacuated. The police were on site with a large contingent to stabilize the situation and locate the unknown person. The all-clear has now been given.
The computer-generated voice spoke of a rampage when the principal took the call at 10.30 am. She immediately triggered the emergency plan that is intended for such threats. The operation kept the whole of Garsten on tenterhooks until the afternoon: the secondary school was evacuated and the children and teaching staff were housed in the curling hall.
No injuries so far
The police were on the scene with a large contingent, including Cobra and the task force. The emergency services were also alerted as a precautionary measure, and crisis support specialists were also there to support pupils and teaching staff.
Number from Estonia
It is unclear who made the threat on the phone, but it was a general threat to go on a rampage. It is now clear that the call was made from a number in Estonia. "The most important thing is that no one is in danger anymore. Of course, attempts are now being made to trace the caller. The school has been searched by the emergency services," confirms Fulya Öncel from the Upper Austrian Provincial Police Directorate.
