Austria against Tirol
Wimmer: “I’m not disappointed, rather proud”
Austria Vienna mastered their compulsory task against Tirol. But despite the 2:0 win, the Viennese missed out on the championship group and now have to compete in the qualifying group. Austria coach Michael Wimmer is nevertheless proud of his team.
Michael Wimmer (Austria coach): "Even if it may sound stupid, I'm not disappointed, but rather proud of the team. We picked up 21 points in the second half of the season, 12 from the last 5 games. We've always got back up, put injuries behind us, put the derby behind us, so there's no point in being disappointed. We missed it a bit in August and September, not now. We have to score points now, especially at the start, so that - and I say this quite deliberately - there's no way back down. Everyone has proclaimed the European Cup as a goal, and that's still possible now. It's about getting our act together and accepting that. I believe that every game will be a real battle."
ThomasSilberberger (WSG coach): "We could have made Austria, who were already a bit nervous today, even more nervous with the penalty. The second key moment was Stumberger's header over the bar. Austria converted the penalties, we didn't. Especially when the score was 0-0, we had one or two transition situations, but often made the wrong decision. We have to build on last week against Hartberg and today. I don't see a duel (with Austria Lustenau, note) in the relegation battle, but a four-way fight with Lustenau, Altach and Blau-Weiß Linz."
