Bayern bold again
“If Leverkusen get scared after all …”
Are these perhaps subtle hints of the infamous Bayern mind games again? After a successful week with convincing victories in the Champions League and Bundesliga, Leon Goretze is at least cheeky enough to tease discreetly again: "If Leverkusen get a bit scared of winning after all, it's our job to be there."
Several slip-ups by the runaway leaders Bayer Leverkusen are necessary for the championship trophy. A bit of luck in the quarter-final draw on Friday would also be helpful for the Champions League ambitions. "We want to win trophies, win the Bundesliga and the Champions League. But there's still a long way to go," said Harry Kane, the outstanding goalscorer with a treble.
For the time being, however, club greats Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge were allowed to talk shop in the stands about the beautiful goals. Despite breathtaking dribbles from Jamal Musiala, arguably Goretzka's best performance of the season and a dream goal from returnee Serge Gnabry, Kane once again stood out.
Tuchel believes Kane can do anything
"It's a gift to be able to coach him," said outgoing coach Thomas Tuchel about the English goal-scorer. Kane has 30 league goals to his name. Nine games remain in the attack on Lewandowski's 41-goal record. "I trust Harry to do anything. He's doing what he's always done in his career. He scores, he's a role model, he's a great personality," said Tuchel.
On Tuchel's farewell tour, the star ensemble gets back on track. Why not just like this? "That's the question of the season," said Tuchel with a grin. Kane emphasized: "I said in midweek that hopefully we can use this as an initial spark. That's the aim now, to continue that in the remaining games."
