Herzog sixth in sprint all-around after day 1 of the World Championships

Speed skater Vanessa Herzog is in 6th place in the sprint multi-event after the first day of the Allround World Championships in Inzell! 

The 28-year-old Tyrolean achieved the sixth-fastest time in both the 500 meters in 37.57 seconds and the 1,000 meters in 1:15.42 minutes on Thursday in Bavaria.

Ignaz Gschwentner spent the night in 24th place in the men's race. Further sprint races over 500 and 1,000 meters are scheduled for Friday.

The women's leader after day 1 is the Japanese Olympic champion Miho Takagi ahead of 500-meter world champion Femke Kok from the Netherlands. Herzog is only just behind in 4th place.
