Large-scale deployment: Explosion and fires in Burgenland

The Burgenland fire departments were in constant action: an explosion and a fire led the emergency services to Unterwart on Thursday night. A few hours later, they had to be called out again due to a silo fire in Markt Allhau. 

An explosion in a residential building woke a man in Unterwart (Oberwart district) from his sleep on Thursday night. As a result, two garage doors were torn from their anchoring and doors were deformed. The man first tried to extinguish the fire in the cellar of the house, but failed, and then called the fire department. The man was injured in the fire to an indeterminate degree and had to be taken to Oberwart Hospital.

Silo fire: four fire departments in action
On Thursday morning, the emergency services were called to a silo fire. The silo at a funeral home was already on fire on Tuesday night. The owner himself became aware of the fire due to the heavy smoke. He immediately alerted the fire department. When the emergency services arrived at the scene, the silo was already fully engulfed in flames. Four fire departments were deployed with 11 vehicles and brought the fire under control after several hours.

Fire in silo reignited
Almost two days later, the Markt Allhau fire department had to be called out again. They were called to the same location. The silo was on fire again. This time the fire was discovered by the operator's father. The fire has now been brought under control by three fire departments. The damage is estimated at more than 200,000 euros.

The causes of the fire are still under investigation in both cases. The police and fire department were initially unable to provide any further details.
